- Nebula Sphynx/ Parascopic Rope by Secret Circuit

I recall reviewing and liking the first 12” on RVNG offshoot Beats In Space (BIS) last year but for the life of me I can't remember the artists name! The shame. Anyway, this is the label's second outing and features Secret Circuit (a.k.a Eddie Ruscha) rocking two cosmic jams. A-side 'Nebula Sphynx' mashes the sound of Detroit house with soundtrack-esque Steve Moore style synth work. It's a body mover and an instant contender for best soundtrack to a non-existent Sci-Fi movie of the year. Flip it and 'Parascopic Rope' mines similar territory sitting somewhere between deep techno, house and cosmic dub whilst always hinting at a lost John Carpenter arpeggio. It's the scattered Afro-beat snare work and use of rarely mined sounds like 'synth voice' that sets this apart as a fresh cut. Real cool as a cucumber number. And the final selling point? That will be the amazing artwork by C.F - a.k.a Christopher Forgues; creator of the epic comic book masterpiece 'Powr Mastrs' and the man behind the often bizarre noise of Kites. Here we are treated to a rare full-colour piece. What a treat.
