The Minster, tourists, a clueless City Council, the highest percentage of tea shops per square mile in the whole of Europe. York is famous for many things but not yet swampy bluesy rock bands, This could set to change with the arrival of The Buccaneers, a raucous three piece from the historic city who brandish a potent update of '60s Yardbirds guitar slinging mayhem married with the kind of brash back to basics sensibility that has seen bands like The Black Keys and (early) Kings of Leon learn not to worry about their mortgage repayments. 'Don't Break Down' launches their debut 7” in style with a heavy churning riff, fizzing production and keening vocals whilst on the flip you get a bar room hustle with ZZ Top (no, come back!) guitars and the type of chant along chorus sure to get ladies in Tennesee back room boozers doing that dancing-whilst-sitting-down thing they do in the movies. Live behemoths apparently and just the right amount of '60s dust filters through on this fine debut which has a full colour sleeve and download code. Very limited.
