Morning everyone. Just got into work and I'm sat listening to the second album by Greece-born, Edinburgh-based singer-songwriter Giorgos Bouras's group The Occasional Flickers. Originally conceived as a solo project, the group has slowly evolved into a full fledged band specialising in the kind folk-tinged indie pop that would drive the kids at Indietracks mad crazy. 'Home Is A Four Letter Word' sees the group (usually a three piece) expanded to six (with members of local bands Eagleowl, Japanese War Effort, My Tiny Robots, Conquering Animal Sound and Long Long Walk) with harmonia, farfisa, Hammond organs, brass and violins colouring these well executed and often wry indie pop gems. You can hear the tweeness of Belle & Sebastian, Allo' Darlin', Darren Hayman, Gorky's and all them Cloudberry bands here without a doubt and they rarely stray from that formula. No bad thing mind as this is a solid collection of confident, well thought out pop ditties.
