I was hoping to get the Lambchop album opened and listened to but we don't have a promo (come on, City Slang) and its too nice to ruin by opening it so we have second choice Jim doing a fair back up job. Jim has been around awhile, I knew him from that 'Searching from the Wrong Eyed Jesus' film from 2004, he has one amazing song which i can't remember the title of and I learnt today that his real name is Michael Pratt. He peddles a brand of very pleasant twangy country-folk which occasionally hits the mark. Its all back porch singalongs and gentle evocations about rivers. Its not a million miles from the Jonathan Wilson stuff that's proving popular at the moment. Best when its melancholy with weeping steel guitars, tinkling pianos and heartfelt vocals its like the mellow side of Richmond Fontaine. I've heard plenty of records like this in my time. They glide along nicely without ever really making you want to get up off your chair and finding a killer melody is pretty tough going but if you are fan of laid back alt country you'll find plenty here to drift off to.
