This 7” has been released to celebrate the joint tour of these transatlantic girl-fronted indie pop bands, with each band offering one track. I've never heard Brighton's Shrag but their contribution is an impressive bit of lo-fi pop with a constant drone over the top of an almost Bis-esque boy-girl shouty vocal line. Glacial post-punk meets Teen-C power, anyone? On the Tunabunny side, Athens Georgia's second-finest dole out a punchy bit of alt-pop with tunnelly reverb on the vocals and the guitars to make it sound like it was recorded in a bunker in 1987. This is a good thing. I like both these songs, and there's a four-colour screenprinted sleeve to boot. Tasty
