Although they discovered Sbtrkt and helped with the progression of James Blake, I'm going to give Brainmath the benefit of the doubt here as there is real quality to this compilation. Other than the names just mentioned it features tracks from Airhead, Zombie, Untold, Bankongo, Brackles. I'm loving the slow jam of opener Airhead with its exaggerated crackles and gorgeously evocative synths putting last Burial 12” to shame.  Bankongo and Brackles peddle a much more upbeat housey vibe, whilst the Airhead and James Blake collaboration is a weird squelchy mess with slowed down vocals, strange 16rpm beats and typical Blakean synths sounding not unlike his excellent pre-'fame' instrumental EP's. Great stuff. Very impressed by the skittering beats on the second of the two Sbtrkt showing that like Blake there is real talent behind the annoying vocal stylings. Zomby goes a bit crazy on his track with an upbeat garagey housey tune which sounds little or nothing like what I've heard before from him. An excellent comp, with some really super moments and a knock down price too.
