Well, to say that today hasn't started all that well would be an understatement, but these new tapes from Sun Ark are just about making a miserable morning bearable, which is saying something under the circumstances. That new Sun Araw tape is well tasty, and this one here is a feel-good surprise, too. I don't know a thing about Aristocrat P. Child, and am a little curious as to what the P stands for, but on this tape he's delivering some pumping lo-fi disco dub with tasty bass grooves it's hard not to get sucked into and psychedelic wah guitar that makes for a bouncy and propulsive yet trippy experience. The disco-heavy compositions coupled with these modern lo-fi dub and trippy psych touches make for a totally indulgent yet also satisfying listen, as he exhibits the same cheese-embracing attitude that made the recent Apparat Organ Quartet album such a romp, only he's representing disco-funk rather than synthpop. It's like a big chocolate cake that's good for you.
