8/10 Li'l Biz Staff review, 25 January 2012

Cut / Copy must have been played a bunch of times in the office but somehow his electro party jams have past me by...oh the shame. 'Sun God' is the closing track of his 'Grammy-nominated 2011 opus Zonoscope' which has been given the remix treatment by producer/DJ/remix lad Andrew Weatherall. As I'm unfamiliar with the track it's hard to say how far Weatherall's remix strays from the original but as a stand alone entity, it holds up pretty well. It's rooted in late-night Berlin club scene with its tough bassline, cosmic arpeggios and seedy whispered vocal. It's certainly a warm, inviting composition with the kind of melodic sensibilities you might associate with Italo disco and early Kraftwerk. Strangely familiar guitar work makes a drifting appearance mixing things up nicely and the use of choir like vocals lifts the track even further in an effort to reach those lofty heavenly heights. Brings to mind The Orb's 'Little Fluffy Clouds'. Flip it and you get Weatherall's arp version which sounds fairly similar but works the arpeggio element harder than on the A-side which makes for a pleasurable motorik house experience. Lovely filter work too. Well MTV chill-out zone.
