Chairlift's debut album 'Does this Inspire You?' has one of those titles begging for a one word review. Their follow up has a bland catch all title designed to stop idiots like me doing a 'shit sandwich' with it. The music is no less aiming to please. It might as well wag its tail. Its polished 80's style pop scrubbed to within an inch of its life. The sort of thing that may have nestled in the 'Our Price' cassette bargain bin in '87. The production values are very Scritti Politti circa 'Provision' - that's ok but there needs to be some kind of grit and songwriting nous to see it through and already half way in I'm hearing too many sacharinne ballads. I did like one track ' Wrong Opinion' which marries the super soft sweet vocals with some harsher Depeche Mode clanks and driving bass and has a sneaky little catchy melody to boot. Similarly 'Amanaemonesia' matches its title with something a little bit more spicy and a catchy chorus and as the album goes on they get a little bit more daring - overall sitting somewhere between Laura Brannigan, Propaganda, Junior Boys and Fever Ray. Just a little too non threatening to be interesting.
