Been a while since I've heard anything new from Oslo based shoegazers Maribel. Looks like they've continued to diversify their sound drifting from the obvious gaze blueprint to embrace a more majestic pop oriented sound. 'Jezebel Jive' is difficult to pinpoint. It features sickly sweet vocals from new East-German lead singer Rebekka Marstein plus the usual crashing guitars and thunderous beats you expect from the group yet somehow it seems very different. Definitely sits somewhere in dreampop territory without being to derivative of the style. Flip it and 'Reverie' is a wash of reversed guitars, ghostly vocal harmonies and looping synths. For all intensive purposes it's an incidental piece, basically just a short loop but it's very nice.
