8/10 Li'l Biz 07 March 2012

Morphosis is Lebanese born Techno DJ and producer Rabih Beaini. An active DJ since the 90's Beanini has been slowly developing his production craft with deeply emotional and experimental cuts permeating his work so far. Not heard his full length debut 'What Have We Learned' but if this 'The TEPCO Report' 12” is anything to go by then it's obvious to me we ain't dealing with no run-of-the-mill Techno producer. A-side 'Exposure' is a particularly strange cut that basically sounds like a soothing variation of an ambulance siren with no beat accompaniment and manipulated so minutely that it plays like an ambient piece. Flip it and Beanini treats us to some beats...which is nice. 'Postatomicpoetry' is a strangely tense affair that uses a simple synth motif to great effect building grainy, torte beats around the distorted, almost industrial melody. Slo-mo Techno has never sounded so good. Gotta check out that album.
