6/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 18th February 2015

For me, Nada Surf peaked with their 2002 album "Let Go" which was packed with memorable songs. Since then the frequency of catchy pop songs they have recorded seems to have diminished. "The Stars Are Indifferent To Astronomy" came out a decade later in 2012 and doesn't quite match their past glories. The opening track, "Clear Eye Clouded Mind" is fairly forgettable, but things do improve a bit. "When I Was Young" is a nice ballad and "Jules And Jim" has a nice jangle to it and is more memorable than what came before it. "Looking Through" stands out from the second half but there isn't as much here as you would expect from Nada Surf. Whilst I like the overall sound, the album does tend to be a bit samey and lacking any interesting dynamic shifts, a bit disappointing really.
