- Salt EP by The Wave Pictures
8/10 Clinton Staff review, 24 February 2012
On lime green vinyl, the exact same colour as a t-shirt I was forced to wear the other night at some work-related thing or other. Just for the record - lime green is NOT my colour. Anyway this is the latest in a series of Where It's At Is Where You Are 7”s. This is like the kind of 7”s your dad used to make (if your dad was in Feverfew or Mousefolk). The A side has one track, the B side has two. The lead track is one of those slightly dark, rolling slow burners that sounds like a Nick Cave who has grown up listening solely to The Field Mice. I'm reminded too of some of Felt's latter moments and also those early Go-Betweens tension filled moments (such as 'Eight Pictures'). The opening gambit on side two is a pleasant little stroll down acoustic avenue with a stop off at trumpet towers and a diversion at mumbled vocal roundabout. It's very breezy and pleasant. The second tune is lovely, simple acoustic guitar strums and a melody which once again recalls The Go-Betweens' more winsome efforts.
