Megan Remy returns with a double dose of bleakness. If you've caught on to U.S Girls you'll have some idea of what to expect here which is (basically) overly dramatic goth-tinged, bedroom produced, experimental pop. Musically Remy goes from strength to strength with each new release though it's hard, in this case, not to compare 'The Island Song' to Zola Jesus (a contemporary? Surely...). 'Island Song' is definitely more refined and 'poppy' than previous efforts suggesting that remy is perhaps ready to take things next level. Flip it and a collaborator by the name of Onokabazien is introduced. Onokabazien takes care of the samples and grooves for this one which brings with it a very different dynamic and frees Remy up to deliver a warped Cyndi Lauper style vocal. Both sides are mint.
