9/10 Mike Staff review, 21 December 2011

It's a beautiful world we live in, because in this particular world I get to review the reissued 'New Traditionalists' by Devo, all remastered on tasty clear vinyl. Their LPs have always been tricky to acquire on this side of the pond so it's great to have a shiny new press of a true classic turning up like this. Even the original inner sleeves with crazy merch illustrations have been recreated in their full glory. Devo are a band who truly need no introduction, since their pioneering experimental synthpop has influenced all and sundry since before I was even born. The music here still sounds as great as it ever did, too, with bona fide Devo classics like 'Love Without Anger', 'Through Being Cool', 'Beautiful World' and 'Jerkin' Back 'N' Forth' keep coming thick and fast. Even 30 years after its original release the words “fresh” and “tight” still seem appropriate to describe these succinct little jams with their wild rhythms, bright synth tones and wry lyrics. This has 'essential listening' written all over it (metaphorically).
