The split single. An amazing way to hear two bands for the price of one. This offering from the label that brought you such classics as 1985's Screwdriver/Bad Brains split “Ebony & Ivory” sees two quirksome pop bands vying for position on the starting grid of life. Forcing their way (potentially) into pole position are Elk and their track “Wet Stars”, which sounds a bit REM-esque vocally but has harder sounding instrumentation. Its got a really catchy chorus...which is a good thing. Coming up hard at the rear (sounds a bit Two Ronnie's) is Crayonsmith who offer a cut which has distinctive vocals and a slight Vampire Weekend feel musically. It's quite urgent and sounds real swell. A sweet single that has two promising acts on each side. The hole in the middle of the record must be one of the tightest holes I've ever forced my way into...as John Terry said to one of his floozies...
