A split with four bands deserves a review in four parts. So without further ado I will proceed...
Gross Magic - 'Yesterday': a feisty one is this. It's quite a pummeling driving number that has a rough and ready production that reminds you that rock music is. Well not too bad really. Its' a strong song is this puppy. It has great energy and enthusiasm.
The History Of Apple Pie- 'Tug': an instant hit from these shoegazers. I'm not really into them as such but this “Tug” track sounds like the best parts of the Breeders and Belly mixed up into a cocktail of up beat alternative rock wonderment.
Echo Lake - 'Buried At Sea': a slowburner this one kids. It has tons of reverb and a really haunting vocal line, it has definite chill wave leanings and its greatness comes from its slowness and emotive sounding choruses. Top stuff and a real standout moment.
Novella - Santiago: another quality song and another track more than a little indebted to Kim Deal and Co. This is a breezy little number that is incessant and very catchy. Its production is very crisp and the vocals are breathy and alluring. A very close runner up to being my favourite track.
A varied split by all accounts that is interesting tune laden and has a sweet hand drawn sleeve that looks fucking ace...
