- Period by Michael Yonkers and the Blind Shake

One of the most exciting sounds in psychedelia? Mebbe. This Yonkers guy has been making music and home made instruments since the early 1960s. Things might have been very different if Sire Records would have released his 'Microminature Love' album in 1968. Unfortunately the world had to wait a few decades before they could viddy this psych “classic”. It lay dormant for years, like a volcano full of Vimto waiting to be shaken up and thrust into the faces of many a hippy and acid casualty. It finally saw the light of day, when in the late 90s, Clint Simonsen of Destijl records happened across one of Yonkers earlier works - 'Border Of My Mind' - and decided to seek out this psych main-man. To cut a highly improbable story short, Simonsen and the brothers Blaha (who became aware of Yonkers through a dating agency mishap) all found this Yonkers guy on his back porch. resting his feet on a shrew and avoiding eye contact with anyone that payed him a visit. They decided to jam together and the Blind Shake/Yonkers phenomenon was born, and they proceeded to play sold out show after sold out show, culminating in their often discussed but very rarely seen Live Aid performance...(they taught Quo some lessons about showmanship that day, let me tell you!!!). This LP is what you might expect from Yonkers, dirgey, heavy, fraught with tension and undulating feedback and pounding drums. A wealthy teutonic Austrian man once said to me “You don't have to be rich to enjoy money...but it does help!!”...don't know how this is relevant but I reckon it sums up this record to a tee...
