- The Primal Energy That Is The Music by Master Musicians Of Jajouka

The Master Musicians of Jajouka are a brotherhood from Morroco that play what is known as “Sufi Trance Music”. This free from spiritual music has connections with the Beat Generation and bizarrely, modern day rock acts like the Smashing Pumpkins. It's music that has been passed down from generation to generation and used to charm the pants off numerous sultans and royal statesmen. They came to the attention of the Beat Generation when artist Mohamed Hamri gave western audiences a glimpse of this traditional, trance music (Hamris's mother was from a village near Jajouka). He Introduced William Burroughs to this mystical music and Burroughs (in-between snorting lots of narcotics and bumming small boys) declared that these musician were like a “..40000 year old rock and roll band..” The Musicians of Jojouka played in a club in Tangier (to mostly western audiences) called the 1001 nights restaurant that was founded by Hamri and Gysin, who were so high on hashish, that anything slightly different must have seemed otherworldly. This is a very interesting record none the less and if you are into folklore and sufi trance you might want to get a load of hashish in you and kick back to this traditional music that sounds pretty awesome actually and is an international music classic.
10/10 Cherie Customer review,
This group was lead by Hadj Abdesalam Attar, who was father of Bachir,Mostapha,Amin and Mohamed Attar. Tair (also spelled Taher) and brother Abdellah BoKhzar, as well as Fudul (also spelled Mfdal) and Berdous, can be heard on this record as well. These musicians listed are among those who later played on 'Apocalypse Across the Sky' (Bill Laswell) and 'Jajouka Between the Mountains' (Real World Records) and others all led by Bachir Attar.
Joel Rubiner along with Bachir Attar and The Master Musicians of Jajouka are happy to re release this wonderful recording. We hope that you like it.
