8/10 Phil Staff review, 22 November 2011
When I think of Hawkwind I think of huge riffs, beer, long hair, motorbikes and tits and I'm reasonably sure that's what every other sane person on the planet thinks of too. Move the clock forward to now and ex-Hawkwind ledge Nik Turner has a new thing out on the doom laden Utech label. It's under the guise Sky Burial and it's 2 huge long drone tracks. It's about as far removed from Hawkwind as you can get aside from the fact the listening would be enhanced by Scooby & Shaggy turning up in the Mystery Mobile filled with drugs (I guess that would make anything sound good...). Anyway you get two tracks of drone and it's that intense celestial sounding drone which makes me think of the heavens and that. It's dark and strangely uplifting and if that floats your boat then you should consider this doomy dronefest which is produced by Justin K Bieber of Godflesh/Jesu fame. :)
UPDATE:! This isn't Nik Turner from Hawkwind, we wee misinformed! It's Michael Page, though Nik Turner from Hawkwind does play sax on one of the tracks!! The 1st line of the review was so funny though we ecided to keep it as it was.....
