‘The Hunter’ is US stoner rock band Mastodon's first non concept album since ‘Remission’ (2002). It contains no elements of classical music and is pure, heavy rock. The album includes a song composed and sung entirely by drummer Brann Dailor who also features on vocals on several other tracks.

8/10 Penrith Steve Customer review, 17th July 2015
As far as credible metal goes, Mastadon are right up there. "The Hunter" opens with "Black Tongue", a thick wall of down-tuned guitars and round-the-kit drum fills. This is essentially very heavy pop music as the catchy "Curl of The Burl" demonstrates. I suppose it's a bit like a heavier version of Nirvana. There are certainly Grunge influences here but everything is faster and harder. With that in mind, "Stargasm" is reminiscent of Soundgarden. "Blasteroid", as you might expect from the title is a speaker-ripping ball of energy. There's definitely a bit of Alice In Chains going on here, but I've always regarded them as one of the bands who sneaked through after Nirvana kicked the doors down - Mastadon are much fresher sounding with more energy. There's more to like. If you fancy a bit of hard-rock, this is well worth it.
