I luuuurve this lady's gear, it is sumptuous, astral and invigorating electronic music from a very special place. The two 12”s she's had out on Hippos in Tanks are amongst the finest EPs i've bought in the last 18 months. This tape can join them, i'll have to stamp it flat though until it resembles a 12” platter so I can file it in with the others. I haven't even got a cassette player any more, waaaah what am I gonna do? On 'Antenna' Laurel smothers an inquisitive ambient piece with the screeeing noise of a shuttle escape hatch tearing open, letting the violent whoosh of the cosmos suck your brain out. Forwarding a bit we get some fabulous metallic clanking techno rhythms twinned with a dreamlike rush of spectral ambient flora and fauna. It's bloody mesmerising, I could listen to this all day. Over to side two we're treated to wondrous ethereal vocal trails mingling with shimmering drones & some implicit warm sub-bass before it all gets proper sinister & somewhat austere in a most cosmic fashion of course. More pulsing dark space-ambience later on, these headphones leave a great deal to be desired, I expect when I hear this over some decent speakers it's gonna tear me a new hole. The last piece on here I'm bothering to try to review is another slice of strange, seductive tribal techno that shuffles, bristles & reverberates around your mind. A wonderful sound that puts Laurel Halo right at the top of the pile of contemporary electronic movers.
