8/10 Phil Staff review, 16 November 2011
Thos Henley is a bloke. He's a bloke who split up with the love of his life and went to France to live (as you do) and there he remains trying to be a bit French and that. Here's a collection of his songs which were largely recorded before he left with a few new songs chucked in for good measure. Immediately I'm struck by the image of the very sensible walking boots in the inside of the packaging, it's good to see Thos is looking after himself. Anyway his voice is going to be something you'll either love or hate - it's got that Banhart-esque warble to it which doesn't bother me as I quite like a bit of voice wobble. The music is very folky (British folk) with a hint of indie-ishness about it. It's not twee at all but it's very sincere and heartfelt and you can hear he really means what he's barking on about. It's that sincerity which is stopping me from being idiotic anymore which is probably a good thing. Charming and endearing are the words that spring to mind.
