Christ, that was one half of a title to try and spell. Just proving that what goes into my review pile, literally could be anything,  we have an album of Takamba music from Timbouctou which is performed a droning fuzzy sounding guitar (we thought it was a violin, it looks like a gun on the sleeve) accompanied by a haunting rhythm tapped on a calabash. Its complex playing and simple rhythms produce a sound which if initially unimpressive, in time becomes evocative and haunting and you find yourself drawn into their mysterious world. The album comes with a bonus 7” which I'm curious to hear as I'm unused to this kind of music being played on an electric instrument and I can report that the instrument acoustically has a lovely far less jarring tone but somewhat helped that the bonus disc has beautiful vocals apparently sung by children and as you may suspect is alarmingly affecting.
