This is probably exciting news to some - J. Robbins (Government Issue, Burning Airlines, Jawbox, producer extraordinaire) has a new group with an album out on his first home - Dischord records. Formed after a supposed one-off performance supporting Chicago punkers The Bomb, the group has quickly evolved into a fully fledged 'thing'. Other than the odd Government Issue track and a few of his studio productions I've never been a big fan of Robbin's work. To emo-orientated for my tastes. Office Of Future Plans music doesn't deviate massively from Robbin's previous projects. It's politically informed, punk-rock inspired college rock that is played proficiently, as is the case with many of the surviving DC bands. It sounds very much like the recent Foo Fighters stuff to me and I'm finding it hard to remove myself from that thought and include other references. Safe to say this is a decent rock record made by a decent crew that will no doubt satisfy the converted and may impress the odd Pearl Jam fan out there too.
