Tokyo based audio visual artist Naoto Taguchi creates music by drawing on his long experience with sound and utilising piano, elements of electronica and programming. Nostalgia opens with a composition called “Tide” which sees Taguchi using meandering piano motifs, almost imperceptible glitch type sounds and subtle electronica. It reminded me of The Green Kingdom and mebbe Pawn. Pawn actually makes an appearance on this LP, remixing tracks “Save” and “Rast” and “Tide” into one number late in the album. Tracks two and three remind me of Fennesz, but I guess it would be churlish to not give Taguchi props all of his own, as he does inject his own style and feel to the textures he creates. As this LP reaches its halfway point Taguchi shows a veritable wealth of inspiration as he creates track after track of music which utilises the same basic palette of tones but remains ever changing. Track 8 is probably the album's standout moment...it just sounds so effortless. The prize for “LP that you are most likely to drink tea to” goes to...
