No messin here with these two classy cuts from one half of the excellent Orphx. 'Refraction' is a slammer in best early basic channel style, aimed squarely at the dancefloor with racing beats and collapsing and dissolving metallic dub chords. A really great track, although nothing groundbreaking, its fully functional and nice to hear this style being done uptempo. When the second kick drum enters its sure to have people gurning for mercy. Meanwhile on the flip 'Driftwork' again has shades of Basic Channel, this though is a more down tempo affair that feels warm and inviting. It's really spaced out sounding and mellow at first but builds wonderfully in unexpected ways over its duration. Both tunes are recommended.
