8/10 Brian Staff review, 03 November 2011

My mum was a massive SF consumer, so much so you couldn't see her bedside cupboard for stacks of Heinlein, Asimov and Frank Herbert contorted into the kind of over-read state that meant the spines were actually illegible. This guy's press release reads like some such hyper cosmic nonsense but you can't deny it's total fun. On the side of R1 I'm indulging in you get some sublime ambient/kosmische pieces bookending a chapter of squiggly acid electro. Now flip over and there's a thumping cosmic-techno with glistening, cascading synths draped over what could easily be a slice of floor burning 4/4 from the Rising High stable in the early-mid 90s. Nice hybrid of styles there. Over to record two and it's mellow disco-tinged house seeping into downtempo electronica and concluding side c is a piece of cymbal-heavy stuttering, collapsing ambient dub techno which is by far the most interesting, unusual piece here. The final face of blue wax I'm investigating begins with a pleasant slice of ambient fauna before we delve into the realms of euphoric astral-inclined electro. This EP's finale falls between the kosmische and Balearic sound worlds and is a fitting closer to a diverse twin-set.
