Have HoZac gone soft? This is the second poppy and melodic effort I've reviewed from them today after that ace Wax Idols LP. This one's a bit more of a Best Coast-esque '60s garage pop-inspired number with loads of reverb on its guitars. The shimmering wall of guitars that coats the A side here is jarring at first but quickly becomes absorbing and delightful as it offers a continual chiming drone over the majority of the track that acts as a great foil for how busy and tuneful everything else is. On the flip we have 'Me and My Dogs', which opens with shameless fuzz guitar which is then quickly joined by organ wibble and guitar jangle to make a piece of delightfully authentic-sounding '60s garage froth which is at least the equal of its counterpart on the other side. Cool record.
