- Smells Like Metal by Nothing People

Nothing People are a rather fine sounding psych/rock/drone band from the good ol' US of A. Which as we all know is the home of dreams, fast food, democracy and many a questionable political policy. Luckily, Nothing People aren't about to arm some small country, then blow the shit out of them for using said weapons or going to stroll into a bank, open a current account and walk out with a full wallet and a smoking Glock. These guys are way more content to hang about in basements, with weird sounding guitars, droney retro sounding keyboards and Sonic Youth style stream of consciousness vocal stylings. They use these to reasonably fine effect. They LP starts with ominous sounding drones, then the jagged, slightly delayed guitar seeps in and yer away. The recording of this LP is quite interesting, eschewing conventional recording methods for a sound that sits somewhere between Spector type wall-of-sound dabblings and REALLY lo-fi scratchy 4 track home recordings. I liked the loose structure of the songs and the tape echo loops, they sound really haunting. A mysterious sounding album, that's shrouded in secrecy and is limited to people with money...
