Bit mysterious this one and no press release to assist me along either...bummer. A little look around the inter-click reminds me that Daphni is a pseudonym of Caribou and Jiaolong is one of his boutique labels used to release remixes/re-edits. We've had a 12” split with Four Tet in before which I recall being a good egg. This one features a remix of Cos Ber Zam's 'Ne Zoya' taken from the 'Afro Beat Airways' compilation and treated to a kaleidoscopic reworking chock full of cascading synth tones and sub-tropical beats topped with an inventive cut-up of the original vocal. Flip that badboy and it's 'Yes, I know', a dance-floor friendly number of undetermined origin. Modern synthetics, cut-up soul/gospel vocals and Four Tet-esque beats are the order of the day here. Final track 'Jiao' gets playful with Eastern rhythms, classic kosmiche synth smatterings of a progressive nature, topped with snappy Debruit-esque funky beats. All the tracks are a worthy listen and this a limited lad too so you'll need to get yer skates on if you one.
