La Ligne Claire are a french four piece post-punk no-wave style band who's name translates as 'The Clear Line', a phrase coined to describe the economical drawing style of Belgian illustrator Herge, creator of The Adventures Of Tintin. From the choice of name it's fairly easy to deduce that La ligne Claire are band influenced primarily by art and experimentation. 'Cheri' confirms this notion with it's topsy turvy lo-fi and slightly ramshackle style. Influenced in parts by hi-life and afro-beat, La Ligne Claire twist those inspirations around the quirk of early Beefheart and Pere Ubu creating a curious and undefinable sound. Loose guitar grooves seem to lead the pack with sparse drum arrangements and additional sounds adding texture as opposed to strict melodic back-up. For those of you with a taste for the ramshackle world of early new and no wave punk. Well Parisian and that.
