'Goodbye Bangkok' is the debut album from Hull based group Lymes. The group was founded by singer-songwriter Rich Gilbert who seems to have some kinda of mysterious musical history that was abandoned in favour of a degree then a six year stint living in Southeast Asia. It was here that that he gathered the tales and observations that make up the content of 'Goodbye Bangkok'. Gilbert plays the astute observer in these tales of debauchery, criminality and outright depressing behaviour. Claiming to have loved his time in Bangkok I'm led to believe that this guy has a seriously sick sense of humour but it makes for excellent lyrical content so it's fair enough. Musically 'Goodbye Bangkok' touches on elements of folk, country, psych rock, baroque pop and classical composition. There are even plans for the album to be performed by The Hull Philharmonic Orchestra which gives you an idea of the grandiose nature of the album. A must for fans of the dark and seedy side of the human psyche.
