8/10 Mike Staff review, 13 October 2011

In C by Terry Riley, written for any number of musicians on any variety of instruments and originally performed in 1964, is considered by many to be the original minimalist composition, and has been recorded by various groups over the years. On this LP we have Invisible Polytechnic's take on it, which is a very rich, lively and accessible recording. As a electronic pulse keeps time, a voice, viola, hurdy gurdy, the bass strings of a harp, bamboo flute and bassoon provide warm and concordant melodic shapes. Tension gradually builds through the first side until they're going full pelt, the side closing with the sound of the orchestra seemingly exploding. Flip it, though, and they appear to have recovered in time to record a second side of delightful textures, also in C. This is both an interesting update of a classic minimalist composition and indeed a beautiful and relaxing recording in its own right.
