- Get A Grip by Spectrals

'Get A Grip' is the first single from Spectrals new album 'Bad Penny' and it looks to be another winner from Louis and the lads. Recorded by Richard Formby (Spectrum, Dakota Suite, Triumph 2000) at his much celebrated Hall Place studio in Leeds and features Louis Jones on every instrument available to him ably backed by his brother Will on drums. The only thing that disappoints is that the rest of his band don't get a look in on these recordings. Very much in the vein of previous Spectrals singles but with a hint of The Style Council and Morrissey thrown in for good measure, 'Get A Grip' is as strong as anything Louis has released thus far. Especially like the chord arrangement in the verse. Flip it and you get the demo version which doesn't deviate much from the A-side bar the fact that the production is more in line with earlier singles. A little more reverberant and rough around the edge, as it should be.
