8/10 Mike Staff review, 29 September 2011

Ever since Phil realised I'm secretly punk he's been giving me all the most brutal stuff that comes in to review. This time round it's a ten-song 33rpm 7” from Atlanta, Georgia's Dead in the Dirt. Given its length I thought it was going to be a straight powerviolence record but it's actually pretty varied. Everything flashes by a bit quickly to really take it in in this noisy office. It's much more on the old-school hardcore meets new-school metalcore tip than the grindcore stylings I was expecting. Even gets a little bit doomy in places, and there's some total beatdown riffs. These guys like to mix it up. As you'd expect on Southern Lord the production is meaty and the band is tight. Nice looking coloured vinyl and pro-printed inserts, too.
