As a man with a history of facial hair and mental illness, I suppose I was the obvious candidate to review this album. It's a pretty charming little oddity by a couple of guys who play in Darren Hayman's band as far as I can tell. They play slightly shambolic twee pop with lots of cheap synths and geeky lyrics which seem to be predominantly about films. There's one about Arnie that starts with a great sample of him telling people to stop being economic girly-men, and that's followed straight up with one about the film stars he'd have at his fantasy dinner party and what they'd bring to the scenario. Cute stuff. It's quite well recorded so you can't really call it lo-fi but there's certainly that cheap and cheerful aesthetic going on. To be honest you'll probably either think it's witty and charming or it'll annoy the hell out of you. I'm leaning towards the former despite a slight aversion to twee pop, but then I do only have to listen to it once. Artwork's nice and it's on red vinyl and it comes with teabag and a photograph complete with doodles by the band themselves.
