- Let Me See You by Octo Octa
I initially played this at the wrong speed despite the huge '45' plastered all over the sleeve. I like it! Its 90's retro rave/dance type gear that I'm enjoying while it's on but is leaving me unsure whether I'd actually play it again. The opener 'Let Me See You' blasts in with Italian House piano stabs and ridiculously the James Brown 'Woo Yeah' thing that no-one has used for about 15 years. It's a feel good blast of sunshine rave pop that I'd happily jog along to if I ever went to a gymnasium. The second track is a more downbeat affair and probably the better for it - some nice vocal samples and boxy percussion yet its strangely uplifting. Like driving around the ring road, soft-top down on a Friday evening, Hall and Oates on the stereo. The B sides are similarly retro house affairs if a little less memorable. Ant elsewhere has expressed concern at the retro nature of these releases - I'm not well versed enough in the genre to have an opinion - save to say that yes, they are ridiculously and often hilariously aping the rave sounds of the early 90's yet the initial two tracks here at least are a whole heap of fun.
