- Split by Grouper / Inca Ore
I really enjoyed Inca Ore's stuff the last time I heard it. Falling somewhere between the muffled ethereal murk of Grouper and the creeped-out witchy intonations of Fursaxa, her particular sonic world is grainy and spooked, the voice seeping out through the cracks in the wall of the room next door whilst blocks of silence provide the atmosphere. Over the course of this minimally executed side maybe a ghostly piano will plink along or even a slow semi-industrial drone may grind away. It's mainly hushed, sparse and isolationist music that at times recalls Christina Carter's side-project Scorces. Now, what can I say about Grouper that hasn't been said before? Her side is obviously going to garner more attention! Lo-fi chamber ethereal-ism that sounds so pure and intimate you cannot fail to be moved and somewhat spooked by the smudged eerieness of it all. This is more piano based than some of her stuff, but of course the ivories are submerged beneath an earthy shifting shroud of sound from which Liz Harris's melancholy sad angel's voice emerges to break your heart. This is a four year old split that's been re-pressed many times but hasn't had a vinyl version in print for a fair while and after hearing the Grouper tracks, I'm so glad it has seen the light of day again!!
