8/10 Ant Staff review, 23 August 2011
Following up on last weeks excellent Fitz Ambrose remix package we have another tape from Icasea. This is an artist album from Japanese synth explorer Satake Fumiaki. I don't know any background info on the artist other than what the press release tells me that previously he was "a key player in the underground progressive rock scene of northern Japan". What we have here are lush synthetic sound worlds fizzing with analogue warmth. The sounds reference the German classics; Popul Vuh, Harmonia, Cluster, etc. and fit in nicely with the current wave of artists re-exploring and re-evaluating the foundations. Artists like Stellar Om Source, John Elliot, the Spectrum Spools label, etc. What make Seesaw stand out from the current crowd though is his location and heritage. The results are that his tracks have something of a Japanese flavour which is difficult to define but it's clear that his surroundings have somehow seeped into his sounds. Edition of 50 copies, includes digital download code and sticker and sounds lovely on cassette.
