Squint your eyes enough and you could be looking at The KLF's all time masterpiece 'Chill Out', man has that record taken me places! Where the Kopyright Liberation Front blatantly disregarded copyright law by sampling Elvis Presley and Acker Bilk, this anonymous project reintroduces the same questions; Is it stealing? Who cares? Even the KLF themselves are sampled and even approved this release. The lovely sounds from Chill Out, even the seagull sounds are used as a backdrop for what is kind of like the ultimate folk music mix tape. There is a quote from Bill Drummond on the back cover "Folk music began to die the day the first record was made". Well ironically this will certainly do its bit to keep the music alive with all the cut and pasting of older and more contemporary folk music with everything from Steeleye Span to loads of trad stuff I can recall from childhood. There's all sorts in there, too and not strictly folk. I could have sworn I even heard a snippet of Roxy Music, there's some Queen in there too, mooing cows, the lot. All very well executed and superbly cut and pasted with expert flow which is somewhere in between the better less scrappy plunderphonics stuff and expert megamixes by the likes of DJ Food. FLK - It's text speak for folk - Wake up!
