Bristol boys (and girl) Zun Zun Egui are going up in the world. After putting out a couple of cracking EPs on Blank Tapes they're now attached to Bella Union, with this single here being a taster for their forthcoming debut full-length 'Katang', which should be finding its way onto your record player in about a month or so with any luck. If you've not caught them already, they play joyous afrobeat-tinged psychedelic rock with loads of energy and a dash of silliness. And I don't mean they sound like Vampire Weekend, these guys are truly ace. The A side here is a totally catchy dancefloor filler with indecipherable lyrics that seem to be something about a "sexy worm" and a "big ass bird" whose phrasing bears a passing resemblance to 'The Bird's the Word'. The drumming's totally bouncy and the guitar tone has that clean trebly afrobeat thing going on and they've still got that sense of rough-around-the-edges abandon that made them so charming to begin with. On the flip we've got something even rougher as they rock the fuck out for a Huw Stephens sesh from December '09. Get on this or get left behind.
