Kosmische Dub Reich / Riley by Rodger Stella

Whoa, this is mega stoned sounding gear. Even more slow motion than DJ Screw's codeine flavoured mixtapes. The work of Mr Stella who also records as Hollow Bush, Human Skin Lanterns, Macronympha, etc. Basically on the first cassette he's taken some King Tubby dubs and pitched them right down to a snails pace leaving room to daub them with loads of ultra spaced out kosmische action from Cluster, whose synth swirls around just above all the delay and echo. Everything is well zoned out and blends pretty perfectly. If it wasn't transparent where the source material is from then you'd be forgiven for thinking the sounds were created from scratch. It's always good fun messing around with records like this, Stella has pretty much nailed this concept though. It doesn't take a genius to work out what the Reich/Riley tape is all about. Yep, you guessed it, it's all about Steve and Terry. Reich's 'Four Organs' and Riley's 'Shri Camel' are recognizable and collide to create a "third" sound which is the sum of the two component parts. Quite a lot to get your head round but again in true megamix style it really does work.
