8/10 Clinton Staff review, 12 August 2011
Care: Not the Howard Devoto-led art rockers of the similar name. This is a group of Cologne based artists, musicians and DJs who have spent time in the former cultural mecca, now devastated-by-idiot wastelands of London and Manchester, carefully learning their craft and soaking up DJ Culture. It's a strange name and an even stranger title. The music is perhaps as you expect;- wibbling 70's kraut synth grooves, highly hypnotic with a worrying tendency to add solos here and there. The best track is the third (or perhaps the first - as usual I'm confused by the label) in which your common or garden 4/4 beat starts off a series of events which include a 10CC 'I'm Not in Love' synth-voice, a wilfully out of time hi-hat and some wonderfully atmospheric synth pads which build up carefully but stunningly over the course of 5 minutes, echo and tape delay is added so the track drifts away into a fog bound haze. It's not unlike some of the high points of the recent BVDub stuff. Finally, we get a kind of motorized squelch layering up the oddest of sounds. So out of the four tracks, three are reasonable and one is stunning, which is about as much as you can ask for these days.
