Ah, the second coming of Three One G!!! Bring it!!! Retox are a new band that sees various Three One G/San Diego characters united in a common cause to bring a little class back to the Hardcore scene. The Three One G style has been described as many things but for me the classic crop of bands (The Locust, Festival Of Dead Deer, Crimson Curse, Swing Kids, Holy Molar) helped reshape the landscape of hardcore whilst injecting some much needed art-punk enthusiasm to the tried and tested tough guy hardcore posturing of the 90's. So after a few stagnant years that have seen Justin Pearson fucking about The Bloody Beetroot - Death Crew '77 amongst other things, the core players regroup to remind us puny humons how to do that shit right! Retox features Justin Pearson (The Locust, All Leather, Some Girls, Swing Kids), Gabe Serbian (The Locust, Cattle Decapitation, Holy Molar, Rats Eyes), Michael Crain (Festival of Dead Deer) and Thor Dickey (the new kid) so, even without hearing them you should have some idea of what to expect. The band have been performing for less than a year, they already have a free downloadable album on their website (also made available as a 7" pic. disc for their UK tour earlier this summer that incidentally, permanently altered my hearing for life) and before you know it we've got a debut LP for REAL! And it's a fucking blinding too! Eleven tracks of absolutely blistering spazz inducing punk rock that twists and turns and demands more from the pitiful shell you call a host body. These tracks are riddled with abstract bleakness and filthy riffs and it's all played with such ruthless efficiency and intense brutality that it's practically impossible to ignore. Pearson's voice is as angry and shredded as ever and Michael Crain's Digitech Whammy/Pitchshifter abuse brings a whole new sonic angle to the traditional Three One G one-song-every-minute approach to writing. Like a breath of putrid fresh air, 'Ugly Animals' will kick your fucking dick right in then tear the flesh clean from your body and leave you blooded and quivering on the side of a dirt road. Fucking love this album. Good to have you back lads.
