We're getting loads of these 3" postcard CDs in at the moment. Between Hibernate and Twisted Treeline there seems to be at least a couple turning up every week! Here we've got one from Chris Dooks which has some fuzzy, hissy, ethereal drone on it, with underlying syncopated industrial-sounding rhythms pushing gently through the static. It's very pretty and not very much happens. That's totally the point of this type of music though so that's far from an insult. On the final and longest track he gets some help from his friend Emily Richards on viola, playing a slow and mournful melody while he swooshes away in the mid-to-bottom end with some smooth, glassy pulses. This is probably my favourite postcard so far in this series, too, with a totally charming and meticulously detailed painting by Kirsty Whiten of a monkey asleep on some flowers. Kind of appropriate given the soothing nature of the music contained on the disc.
