8/10 Brian Staff review, 18 August 2011
I also missed the 7" this Brum-based gang of folk-botherers threw into the underground musical network recently. It certainly sounds like they peddle an authentic brand of rousing traditional folk rock and flower-power-flecked whimsy. With a neat six tracks to run through it ain't gonna folk you off too much either. I think six tracks is enough to put up with from most bands and gives you a good idea of how wide (or narrow) their repertoire is. I think they've definitely been studying their classics and they bring a homely British skiffle-y edge to such influences as Simon & Garfunkel, Dylan & Love. I'm also impressed by their nod to contemporary European cinema (nearly) in their moniker, a very lovely film indeed. Impassioned and earthy with a whimsical soul, this bunch are indeed on the same wavelength as our fave rustic pretty boy Johnny Flynn. I implore the Caravan-meisters to do a limited run of this on 12" wax as that sleeve is adorable.
