1 review | 2 people love this record: be the 3rd! Raucous sounding garage rock from these self confessed chongers. I actually thought the 'Yons were gonna be a bit more psych or summat. I reckon they have a touch of Times New Viking about them, which is no bad thing. They are more visceral than the Viking lads. Raucous sounding garage rock from these self confessed chongers. I actually thought the 'Yons were gonna be a bit more psych or summat. I reckon they have a touch of Times New Viking about them, which is no bad thing. They are more visceral than the Viking lads. They have such an unhinged sound, as a band on Jon Dwyer's record label should. They can be thrust into the same ballpark as Thee Oh Sees as they seem to share the same crazed pop sensibilities...if it squawks and thuds...use it!! They are a three piece that all play different instruments at any given time, yet there doesn't seem to be a weak moment on this record. All the playing seem to be very strong. As do the songs that are in turn psychedelic and garagey and even have slight progressive elements. Almost all of the cuts here have a real direct approach and you can almost feel the sweat and effort flying off the protagonists. It starts quite quietly does this record, then explodes into life, and by the time its over you'll find yourself sweaty and breathless and drunk on the power and sonics of the 'Yons. This is a real rock and roll album with great energy and lashings of sass (who says "sass" anymore!?!). These guys will no doubt be tearing up a stage pretty soon near you...be sure to catch them as they sound pretty fucking awesome. An exciting prospect and promising debut...Ohh!!
