8/10 Phil Staff review, 30 June 2011
This is pretty sweet. Sean Baxter is an Australian avant-garde percussionist and he makes a right old percussive racket. 'Metal' is what it sounds like... freestyle jazz drumming with loots of rattly bits of metal all over the shop. Or it sounds like someone falling down a long flight of stairs whilst playing the drums and someones thrown the contents of a cutlery drawer down to follow the drummer. Hectic just doesn't do it justice. The flip side 'Flesh' is less metallic and clanky sounding and essentially just some nice free form drumming with some other percussive business (a bit Foley-ish?) going on as well. Fans of Usurper and Eli Keszler take note. If you enjoy the sounds of folks hitting things then this is for you!
