There seems to be a bit of a kerfuffle about this 7" in the office, at least two members of staff are flapping about asking when it's going to be played. It's on now - remarkably straight for the kind of stuff these chaps get excited about. The A side is a very melodic mid-1980's pop offering with a dash of fairlight (oh no is that on the way back?) but more importantly a huge dose of melancholy. It has a kind of glacial Christmassy feel and the main melody sounds like the end section of Laurie Anderson's 'O Superman'. The singer sounds like something between David Thomas (Pere Ubu) and the TV on The Radio feller.  It's a good song that would fit into the soundtrack of a John Hughes film. The B side even more so, sounding exactly like the kind of offering that would come from the pen of a English synth band who made it big in America - a bit of OMD here, a smidgen of Wang Chung there. It also sounds like Andy Prieboy-era Wall of Voodoo but I suspect that's a comparison just a tad obscure for some.
